getting iraq to work--gingrich and giuliani

http://newt.org/backpage.asp?art=3963

This is an excellent op-ed co-written by Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani for the Wall Street Journal. The article makes many good points, and you can debate them if you wish, but the article does show quite clearly just how complicated "winning the peace" has become in Iraq. Pres. Bush has less than two years left to secure Iraq. If we get to November of 2008 and Iraq is still in turmoil, history will judge him very harshly as one of the most incompetent Commanders-In-Chief ever. If, on the other hand, the new Iraq team that the president has assembled can turn things around and get Iraq stabilized, the American people will forget all about the chaos of the last 3 years and Bush will be judged much differently. The American people will tolerate nothing less than a clear, decisive victory in Iraq, and that victory must be achieved during the next year. It's legacy time for Pres. Bush! Does he have the strength and wisdom to win the first major campaign of World War III? Time will tell.
