a prayer for the 4th of july
The following prayer was offered by Rev. Byron Sunderland, D.D. to open the July 4, 1861 session of the U.S. Senate (I thought liberals said we had separation of church and state!):
Almighty and everlasting God, be not angry with us for our sins, which we only confess and deplore; but pardon our offenses and extend to us Thy favor. We thank Thee for Thy goodness on this anniversary of the nation a day tenfold more precious by reason of our present troubles, and sacred to the heart for the ever memorable Declaration of our fathers, in which Thou didst begin more openly to give us a name among the nations of the earth. We thank thee for all Thy manifold and abundant mercies hitherto to make our nation great and glorious; but now disasters have befallen us and darkness broods in the land. And now we ask Thy mercy as the Senate is convening at a most momentous crisis of our history. Give to Thy servants all needed help. Add to their deliberations wisdom and unanimity, and profit and speed to their conclusion. Bless Thy servant, the President of the United States, our veteran Commander-In-Chief, and all that have functions in the civil and military power. May the angel of Thy presence walk in the Cabinet and in the Congress and in the camp, to go before, to purify, and to direct the now greatly and universally-awakened love of country. And we beseech Thee to guide us, to overrule and order all things, and so to cause that nothing will fail, that the disorders of the land may be speedily healed, that peace and concord may prevail, that truth and righteousness may be established, and that Thy Church and Kingdom may flourish in a larger peace and prosperity, for Thy Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.
May this be our prayer today, during this 4th of July season, in these grim and uncertain days of the 21st Century. May God bless each and every one of us, and God bless America!
Sincerely,
The Christian Conservatives

Jesus was a liberal, He would be horrified by what people who claim to be Christians think and do.
liberal (adj.) Look up liberal at Dictionary.com
c.1375, from O.Fr. liberal "befitting free men, noble, generous," from
L. liberalis "noble, generous," lit. "pertaining to a free man," from
liber "free," from PIE base *leudheros (cf. Gk. eleutheros "free"),
probably originally "belonging to the people" (though the precise
semantic development is obscure), from *leudho- "people" (cf. O.C.S.
ljudu, Lith. liaudis, O.E. leod, Ger. Leute "nation, people"). Earliest
reference in Eng. is to the liberal arts (L. artes liberales; see art
(n.)), the seven attainments directed to intellectual enlargement, not
immediate practical purpose, and thus deemed worthy of a free man (the
word in this sense was opposed to servile or mechanical). Sense of
"free in bestowing" is from 1387. With a meaning "free from restraint
in speech or action" (1490) liberal was used 16c.-17c. as a term of
reproach. It revived in a positive sense in the Enlightenment, with a
meaning "free from prejudice, tolerant," which emerged 1776-88. Purely
in ref. to political opinion, "tending in favor of freedom and
democracy" it dates from c.1801, from Fr. libéral, originally applied
in Eng. by its opponents (often in Fr. form and with suggestions of
foreign lawlessness) to the party favorable to individual political
freedoms. But also (especially in U.S. politics) tending to mean
"favorable to government action to effect social change," which seems
at times to draw more from the religious sense of "free from prejudice
in favor of traditional opinions and established institutions" (and
thus open to new ideas and plans of reform), which dates from 1823. Source
This is why I always take being called a liberal as the highest of compliments!
Rurkid--That's a really nice definition you have there from dictionary.com, but it's irrelevant to our discussion. Also, your statement that Jesus was a liberal is absurd. In fact, Jesus was the original Reagan conservative, 2000 years before Reagan was president. Please let me explain.
Whatever the word "liberal" has ever meant in the past, today it means:
1. ...a person who believes that the right to kill unborn babies is the most sacred right we possess. The proof of that statement was contained in the Senate Judicial hearings for Alito and Roberts. The abortion question was the only question the liberals had. Clearly they believe that our entire civilization will forever disappear from the face of the earth if so much as one pregnant woman chooses life instead of death for her baby. Read Psalm 127:3. Also see the 10 Commandments (Thou shalt not kill). Anyone who thinks Jesus is in favor of murdering innocent babies is just plain wrong.
2. ...a person who believes with every fiber of their being that Darwinism is accurate, despite the fact that there isn't one shred of scientific evidence supporting it. Colossians 1:16 makes clear that Jesus was present at the creation, so it's pretty clear to me which side of the debate He would line up on.
3. ...a person dedicated to eliminating any mention of Jesus, Christianity, God, creationism, or anything else having to do with prayer or the Bible from the public square. Do you honestly believe that Jesus would say, "Let there be no mention of me at all in public schools."? Does Mark 16:15 say, "...Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation, except for public schools, government offices, town squares, or any place else that would offend the ACLU."?
Your statements are absolute proof that I am right when I say that liberalism is a cancer that makes the poor infected soul unable to differentiate between right and wrong, fact and fiction, honesty and dishonesty. My prayers are with you.
And "conservative" means a person who holds life sacred only until the moment of birth, after which anyone is fair game. Why? Because since feti neither scream nor express suffering, it is not fun for conservatives to kill them - they much prefer killing innocent people whom they can see and hear screaming their pain, it's so much more fun that way. In fact, conservatives are pro-post-partum-abortion, as Reagan and his demonic ilk have constantly demonstrated.
You obviously are unaware of the fact that you're totally and pathologically delusional, and as far removed from Christianity as possibly could be - you profess diabolical beliefs that have no remote connection to Christ.
Wow! I don't think I have ever encountered anyone in my life who is as filled with hate as you are, rurikid. The Book of Esther in the Bible talks a lot about hate. My Study Bible has a note pertaining to Haman's hatred of Mordecai in Esther 5:9. The note says, "Hatred and bitterness are like weeds with long roots that grow in the heart and corrupt all of life". Let me be very clear--I don't hate liberals, and I don't hate you, rurikid. I do hate the philosophy of liberalism, because it is a doctrine built on lies, death, and sin. Liberalism exalts the superiority of the individual and denigrates the omnipotence of God. Liberalism is a sinful cancer of the heart, mind and soul, and your last two posts are the proof. You say that a fetus doesn't scream or express pain. Medical science says that's not true; unborn babies do feel pain. What kind of a diseased heart, mind and soul does a person have to have to support the murder of unborn babies, knowing that it hurts those babies?
You say that conservatives prefer killing innocent people because we love to hear them scream. If you truly believe that, I can't help you. Only God can change a heart, and I pray that He changes yours.
You say that conservatives don't care about people after they are born. May I remind you that it was a conservative Republican who freed the slaves? Conservative Republicans were responsible for getting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed, over the strong objections of liberal, southern Democrats. It was a conservative GOP president (Reagan) who increased funding to fight AIDS by 4438% during his administration. By the way--how was Reagan demonic? Help me understand. Also--what is post-partum-abortion? Is that a new way of killing babies that we haven't heard about yet? Certainly if there was a new way to kill babies, liberals would be at the forefront.
Rurikid, I am begging you. PLEASE look inside your heart. Ask yourself why you believe the things you do, and why you have become so consumed with hate. PLEASE look to the Bible for God's truth, as opposed to the lies of this world. I promise you that I will pray for both you and me, that we would both humble ourselves before God and ask Him to give us wisdom so that we can do His will, and not ours. By all means, keep corresponding with us here at the blog. Maybe together, with God's help, love, and mercy, we can arrive at the truth. God bless you, rurikid, and God bless America.
When are people going to figure out that ALL religion is man made.
