can the dream be sustained?

Today, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, America stands at a crossroads. Conservative Republican reforms, enacted over the last 25 years or so, such as tax cuts, school voucher programs, and welfare reform, have brought America closer to Dr. King's ideal of equality than we have ever been before. The November elections, however, have brought a new group of people into power. The liberal Democrats who now control the Congress have already started rolling back the progress that has been made, and they promise not to stop until we're back to where we were in the 1960's. Congress has passed a minimum wage hike, which will have the immediate effect of raising black unemployment by 6%. Next on the liberal agenda is a repeal of the Bush tax cuts (that means a tax increase) which means that all Americans, including black Americans, will have less money in their pockets. The tremendous increase that we have seen since 2000 in black-owned businesses will now be just an aberration. Thank you liberals! The school voucher programs that have been so successful will soon be a thing of the past, since they are so offensive to teacher unions. That means that students will once again be stuck in the failing schools that liberals want them in. Thank you liberals! Any and all restrictions on illegal immigration will be eliminated by the new liberals, forcing huge numbers of poor black workers into unemployment. Thank you liberals! It looks to me as if the liberal democrats are not going to be happy until we have re-achieved the "days of malaise" that Pres. Carter worked so hard to achieve. Not to worry, though. Mommy and Daddy Government, under liberal control, stand ready, willing and able to confiscate just as much of the taxpayer's hard-earned income as is necessary to provide "alternatives" for those who get ground up by the liberal agenda.
