liberalism--the blight of american culture

"Silencing Saddam"

Besides writing for my own blog, I have also been a fairly frequent participant in the online debates occurring on Truthdig.com. Truthdig is one of those really wacky, lunatic left-wing blogs that is so insane, and so over the top, that it actually is fairly entertaining. Kind of like Saturday Night Live was after Belushi/Ackroyd/etc. left---really bad, but in a somewhat funny/train-wreck sort of way! I get on there and agitate the socialist simpletons, and try to provide a little truth and a little education, and I enjoy it. The above link is different.

It makes me sick to the bottom of my soul to know that there are people in this great nation of ours who are so hateful towards God, and the Good News of Jesus Christ, and the foundational principles of the American Republic, and the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, and the clear-thinking wisdom of Reagan Conservatism, and the Bush administration, that they actually want to see America defeated by Islamofascism. These people (about 10% of the American population, I believe) are actually rooting for radical Islam, and they have taken the side of each and every monstrous, murderous thug that represents the jihadists. Just take a look at the above link and see the outpouring of support for "poor old Saddam" and the outpouring of hate towards "that evil terrorist George Bush." I have submitted a comment for this particular link, and eventually, Truthdig's moderators will get around to posting it. It will have my name on it (Hondo) and I guarantee my comments will provoke a "feeding frenzy." I encourage you to read the article, and the heinous responses the article generated.
This is what we're up against, sports fans. We must take every opportunity to shine a light in the darkness. There are those who love the darkness, and our light may not make any difference for them, but there are others who we can save from being seduced by the darkness. That's why we must "preach, teach and nag" (to quote Dr. Laura) and we must stand up and scream the truth, and we must let our light "shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

Hondo, I am amazed that your view of the world would lead you to put Reagan and Bush in the same paragraph with the "good news of Jesus Christ"
Last time I checked, Jesus was a LIBERAL, if promoting peace and love are liberal values.
What kind of gun would Jesus own? Who would Jesus bomb?
Would Jesus put the rope around Saddam's neck?
If you answer yes to the latter, you are loonier than the whackos you deride on that website you so delight in "tweaking". (I doubt you have much of an impact but cling to your delusion if you must)
Anyone can set up a web site and start blogging and commenting on the news and views of the day. But if it is your intent to educate people to the "good news of jesus christ" then perhaps you should become better acquainted with his teachings. Your opinions/views seem to be more reflective of Old Testament, vengeful god kind of thinking. Jesus came to change all that, and judging by world events, and the venommous bile you spew, his message hasn't gotten through, not even to saintly dear leader Bush. As to your comments on the "feeding frenzy" your letter would provoke...it's been over 24 hours since it was posted and I am the first to comment...and I don't even regularly read the truthdig site...just got linked to the Saddam article.
If your letter and your website are any indication, you are a bit of a loon yourself. You do not have to love Islam or hate America to oppose the policies of this thoroughly misguided administration. People who love this country do not like to see it's lofty ideals and reputation so completely destroyed by the incompetent and greedy people who have taken control of it. Look at the facts. The neocons see control of the middle east as essential to preserving America's pre-emminence in the control of world energy supplies. It is not about freedom justice democracy or bringing justice for the crimes of Saddam. From the PNAC website
"Moreover, America stands
at the head of a system of alliances which
includes the world’s other leading
democratic powers. At present the United
States faces no global rival. America’s
grand strategy should aim to preserve and
extend this advantageous position as far into
the future as possible."
link http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf
IT is not about right or wrong to the neocons...it's all about who is in charge.
P.S. quoting "Dr." Laura does not help your credibility.

Hondo,

I agree that the truthdig site is quite slanted to the left, but I think you missed the crux of the article. It had to do with a fair trail, not defending Hussein. In the eyes of justice, there is supposed to be no nationality, color, creed, etc. There is supposed to be justice. Even Jeffrey Dahlmer, maybe one of the worst human beings to ever walk the planet, got a fair trial. If you have defense attorneys, regardless of who they are defending, get killed and intimidated, judges thrown out, outbursts in the court, etc, you don't get a fair trial.

Hussein was a puke. The worst of his kind, but it isn't about Hussein, this is about us. If we don't hold ourselves to a higher standard, then aren't we the same as those we point our fingers at? Don't let your "Christian" feelings interfere with your rational understanding of what fairness and justice are. I know it is difficult to reach deep into the "love thy neighbor" and "judge not, lest ye be judged" teachings and actually UNDERSTAND them, but give it a try. You would be amazed at how quickly the world would stop laughing at Christians if Christians would just start acting like they are supposedly taught. I personally scorn Christians because they don't emulate anything the New Testiment tells them. You are so busy pointing to the world what you DON'T stand for that you have lost your ability to show what you DO stand for.

As for quoting Dr. Laura, yeah, you lose points for that.

I must agree totally with both Michael and Jody. How can you call yourself Christian and spew all that garbage? Besides the fact that you obviously did not understand the article in Truthdig thoroughly or you would have noticed that it was about giving Hussein a fair trail even though he was a horrible person, and as the article pointed out even the Nazi's at Nuremberg got a fair trail. Even though I am your despised LIBERAL..please do not mention Reagan and Bush jr. in the same breath. Dont let your conservative roots blind you. Try fairness for a change, you will be surprised of how wonderful it can make you feel.

“Socialist simpletons”—wow..amazing how deftly you can label those who don’t agree with!! Would George Bush be considered a “fascist simpleton?”
Which brings me to my nest point—“Islamofacism?!” Hondo…tisk, tisk!! I though you were going to educate those “wacky liberals!!” Would you care to inform them that such a creation exists nowhere accept in the minds of the (endangered) neo-conservative imagination?! By the way, it is worth pointing out that the “clear-thinking” of Reagan supported Saddam Hussein in the 1980’s. When an American navy vessel (oh yeah, I am an America-hating veteran) was hit with an Iraqi Air-to-surface missle, the clear thinking of Reagan blamed the Iranians!! (P.S. I missed the book of the apostle Leo Strauss—though Bush has seemed to have mastered the “noble lie and the deadly truth” in a different sort of way). I have a question for you there Hondo the enlightened one—does the “good news of Jesus” encompass the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians killed, or does that just extend to you good Christians? Since you are the font of all knowledge, please enlighten me—if Saddam kills his own people and we support him….if the Turks kill Kurds in southern Turkey and we equip them for that…if Suhuarto kills 200,000 Timorese with the blessings of Gerald Ford…”do we too, have God on our side? I’m not done—we can pick this up later if you so desire…I don’t want to be an ignorant “wacky liberal!!” (P.S. check out Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli to see what the founding fathers thought about the United States and theology.)

"I’ve spent a lot of time agitating you wacky liberals on this site, partly because it’s so easy (most of you aren’t very smart) and partly because I just get a kick out of it. The comments I’m writing now don’t fall into those categories. Now I’m just mad! "
