A guy that I used to teach with said to me one time, "Where have all of our heroes gone? America doesn't have any heroes anymore." This is same guy who cheated on his wife with dozens of other women (they have since divorced), and who once asked me if he could have lunch with my wife. He said that he wanted her to set him up with one of her friends, and needed to "communicate directly" with her as to what he was looking for. Riiiiight!

What's the relevance of all that? I mean, besides the fact that a supposed friend of mine was asking permission to f___ my wife? I'll explain.

It is a very interesting Cal Thomas column about the tendency of many Americans, across the political spectrum, to look for a hero, or a "messiah", in the world of politics. If we could just find the right "hero", and elect that hero to the right office, all our dreams would come true! Ladies and gentlemen, we are "looking for love in all the wrong places!"

First of all, there is only one Messiah. Read the following verses from God's Holy Word:

For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.---John 3:16

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.---1 Timothy 2:5

For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.--- 1 Peter 3:18

That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.---Romans 3:20

There's nothing in the Bible about some schmo politician rising up and "saving the day." You see, that's the fundamental difference between Christian conservatives and secular progressives. The secular progressive doesn't buy into the whole concept of throwing away your sinful, prideful "individuality" and becoming one with Christ. The modern liberal believes that individual, selfish whims and desires must be given complete freedom to express themselves, and that Mommy and Daddy Government is the "messiah" that will bless us and care for us and establish justice on this rock. The Christian conservative, on the other hand, believes that "...all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." Do you see the difference? Liberalism says we should look to man (as long as it's a liberal man) and government (under the control of modern liberalism) for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Conservatives believe that these unalienable rights come from God, not government. That provides us with the blueprint for finding the proper and correct "heroes" in modern-day America.

In a nutshell, the truth is this: You, filled with the Holy Spirit, are the hero America is looking for. You, with God and His Son Jesus Christ in control of your life, are the man (or woman) that America is looking for. Forget about Mr. Coffee! A nation turns its lonely eyes to you!

Joshua 24:14-15 provides the roadmap. You, as an individual endowed by God with free will, must carve these verses upon your heart:

So now: Fear God. Worship him in total commitment. Get rid of the gods your ancestors worshiped on the far side of The River (the Euphrates) and in Egypt. You, worship God.
If you decide that it's a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you'd rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you're now living. As for me and my family, we'll worship God.

That's how you become "The Greatest American Hero." Here's how it works: You make the decision to love God with all of your heart, your mind, your soul and your strength. You accept His Son Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You ask God to change your heart with the power of the Holy Spirit so that you can love others as much as you love yourself. You ask God to transform you into a person who can lead your family to Christ, just as God transformed Moses into a man who could lead the Israelites to the Promised Land. If each and every so-called Christian adult in the United States of America followed this blueprint (which comes from the Bible, not from me), America would become "one nation under God" within one generation. America would become the "shining city on a hill" that Pres. Reagan talked about so often. Liberalism would be defeated, because modern liberalism could not survive in a nation where the majority was dedicated to the teachings of Christianity and the principles inculcated by our Founding Fathers. America would arrive at the "the promised land": a land where the federal government would be properly restricted by the constraints of the Constitution, a land where "we the people" would depend upon God to be our Provider, and a land where "justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream." Do we get there by putting our faith in Barak Hussein Obama, or Hillary "Sister Frigidaire" Clinton, or "Hizzoner" Rudy Giuliani, or John McCrazy, or Bill "He Thinks He's The Messiah" O'Reilly, or Al "Star Trek" Gore? No! We get there by following God's Holy Word:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
