ann coulter part 2

There has been so much controversy the last couple of days concerning the new Coulter book, we felt that one more post was necessary. Most of the controversy centers around Coulter's harsh criticism of the so-called "Jersey Wives" who lost their husbands on 9/11. The debate over the appropriateness of Coulter's comments, as well as the appropriateness of the actions of the widows, highlights major differences between conservative and liberal thought. Let's walk through it step-by-step:
1. The attacks of 9/11 took place, killing thousands of innocent Americans. Both liberals and conservatives temporarily put aside politics and grieved together.
2. In the aftermath of the attack many Americans, including many of the survivors, began asking very appropriate questions--How could something like this happen? Could it have been prevented? No problem so far.
3. As time went on, the Jersey Girls, among others, began demanding that a commission be put together to investigate the security and intelligence lapses, if any, which might have contributed to our vulnerability. The government refused, and the mainstream media ignored them.
4. The Jersy Girls changed tactics. All four were liberal Democrats, so they began to blame Pres. Bush for the death of their husbands. Never mind that Bush had been in office for only 7 months. According to The Gals, Bush was responsible for all of the intelligence failures that lead to 9/11. Bill Clinton, however, having been President for a full 8 years, escaped criticism. Typical liberal hogwash!
5. The Jersey Girls, over the next several years, escalated their rhetoric to the point where they actually accused Pres. Bush of murdering their husbands. They also hired publicists, started their own for-profit foundation to publicize their views, hired out for speaking engagements, hit the talk show circuit, and campaigned for John Kerry. Different people grieve in different ways, I suppose!

Conservatives look at this whole brouhaha and say to the Jersey Girls, "I am so sorry for your loss. You have my deepest sympathies and I will pray for you. I don't, however, agree with your political statements. You have every right to express those views, but I will dispute their accuracy and speak out against your views. I will also express the opinion that your actions do a disservice to the dead and are harmful to our country."

Liberals say (at full volume), "YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO CRITICIZE THESE WOMEN! THEY ARE VICTIMS! AS SUCH THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY ANYTHING THEY WANT AND YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO RESPOND! THEY HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, YOU DON'T! YOU MUST ACCEPT EVERYTHING THEY SAY AS THE GOSPEL TRUTH WITH NO ARGUMENT OR DEBATE. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE VICTIMS!! THE GREAT AND MIGHTY OZ HAS SPOKEN!!

Conservatives will respond by saying, "We will not be silent. The behavior of these four widows is creepy, and their public statements are dishonest. If they want to become political hacks, that's fine. Just understand that this is the big leagues, and politics is a collision sport. They better be wearing protective gear, because we'll be coming right back at them. If they can't handle the scrum, they had better go back to their suburban kitchens."

If these gals want to say silly stuff to the media, they have that right. If the mainstream media wants to mislead people into thinking that The Merry Widows are representative of all 9/11 survivors, they have that right. If you want to believe that the cockamamie views expressed by the Jersey Girls have any basis in fact, that's your right. We conservatives won't infringe upon any of those rights. Just don't expect us to stay silent when it is so clear to us that 1.) these women have no idea what they are talking about; 2.) these women are being used as pawns and "human shields" by the liberal elite; 3.) these women are making a ton of money trading on their victim status; 4.) these women are having a blast with their 15 minutes of fame; and 5.) these women don't in any way represent the views of the majority of 9/11 survivors, or the majority of Americans, for that matter.

Love her or hate her, one thing is crystal clear: Ann Coulter speaks the truth.
