what is a christian conservative?

Welcome to this brand new outpost in that untamed frontier known as the blogosphere. We hope that you enjoy reading what we have to say, and that you are challenged by our words.

So, who are "we"? Well, we are Christian Conservatives. But, you say, that doesn't quite explain to your satisfaction who we really are or what our "agenda" is with this blog. Fair enough. You do need to know a little more about us in order to feel comfortable (or not) visiting us. Here goes nothing.

We're "two American kids growin' up in the heartland" (call us "Jack" and "Diane" if you wish) who believe that this great country we live in, the greatest country in the history of the world, is losing her way. There has never in the history of the world been a country that has amassed as much power and wealth and has used it for such good as the United States of America. We believe, however, that over the course of the last 60 or so years, "we the people" of these United States have turned our backs on God and have become increasingly disobedient to our Heavenly Father. If, as a nation, we don't confess our sins, repent, and turn back to our Creator, we are doomed.

Do you want specific examples of what we believe it means to be a Christian Conservative? Here's what we believe:
1. We must be "Christians" first, last, and always, and then we can be "conservatives". That simply means our Christian faith and the expression of that faith is more important than our political beliefs.
2. That being said, we believe that our political beliefs are a natural expression of our Christian faith. Simply put, we do not believe that we must look to politics and government for our salvation. We do believe that we must look to God and His Son Jesus Christ for our salvation, and then work like crazy for the salvation of government and the governed.
3. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its power in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." Thomas Jefferson said it better than we ever could.
4. We believe, in the words of Ronald Reagan, "Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowleged."
5. We believe that, as a country, we have allowed our federal government to become completely uncontrollable. We have allowed that to happen because we have decided that "Mommy and Daddy Government" must provide for our every want. As that great non-conservative, Pres. George W. Bush, once infamously said, "When people hurt, government has to move." That type of thinking is killing our freedoms and, ultimately, our country. "A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have."---Pres. Gerald Ford

Does that give you an idea of where we are going? Our purpose is clearly stated below the heading of this blog--"A blog that celebrates God's love for us, the Good News of Jesus Christ, the foundational principles of the American Republic, the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, the clear thinking common sense of Reagan Conservatism, and the relationship between all of the above." That's us in a nutshell. More will follow.
