the liberal intelligentsia searches vainly for purpose

Rabbi Aryeh Spero continues to amaze me with the way in which he is able to cut through all of the baloney and get right to the heart of the truth. His latest column, concerning the hypocracy of "limousine liberals" and the global warming issue, is another masterpiece.

Much of what Rabbi Spero talks about, I have documented in previous posts. He does bring out a new thought, however, that I wanted to expand on. The Rabbi says,

John Edwards, an "environmentalist," eviscerated 20 acres of forest land to make his driveway. When Al Gore, Mr. Green, was asked about the 20 times more electricity his Nashville home consumes above the average homeowner in Tennessee, he replied with some nonsense about his electricity use being supplied by “acceptable” means of power generation.

Well, most of us can't afford these "acceptable" forms of energy consumption. This is, really, "Green for those with the green." No wonder Hollywood and wealthy elitists have made this their cause. It entails, for them, no sacrifice. Purpose without burden. Again, like so many proposals and policies coming from the wealthy Left, it is the average Joe who will suffer or lose his job so that the limousine liberals can feel good about themselves, pat themselves on the back about how superior they are, and give themselves a big round of applause at the Oscars.

Those words, "...no sacrifice. Purpose without burden" are, for me, the most important words in the whole column. That, in a nutshell, is what secular humanism, the great liberal religion, is all about. That's why Christian conservatives and secular progressives will never be able to find common ground on very many issues. The Christian believes in the concept of sacrifice, and purpose found through the easy yoke and light burden of following Christ (Matthew 11:28-30). The secularist believes in the worship of self, and the avoidance of any type of burden or inconvenience to self. The conservative believes that government should stay out of our way as we seek to live our lives according to the dictates of our conscience. The progressive believes that the dictates of their conscience should be the law of the land, whether we the people like it or not. Hence, the fascism of the global warming crowd grows ever more dangerous and ever more dishonest.
