today in history, our national anthem

Sept. 14, 1814-----Francis Scott Key composed the lyrics to "The Star Spangled Banner" after witnessing the massive British bombardment of Fort McHenry in Maryland.
http://www.bcpl.net/~etowner/anthem.html is a link to a good website celebrating the story behind our national anthem and Fort McHenry.

"Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause is just, and this be our motto: "In God is our trust." And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave."

God bless America!
