God bless all who serve america in the defense of freedom!

Memorial Day weekend is one of my favorite times of the year. It's an opportunity to get out in the sunshine (most years) and do fun things with my family. We cook out, we enjoy a break from work and school, and of course, I love going to the Indy 500. I've only missed 2 races since 1985, and it just keeps getting more and more fun as the years go by. This year, the 500 weekend was even better because we took the kids to the 500 Festival Parade on Saturday for the first time, and they absolutely loved it! Go to http://www.500festival.com/parade/ to see just how fabulous this parade is, and http://indy500.com/ to read about the race.

With all of the fun that I try to pack into one 3-day weekend, though, I make a real effort to remember why it is that we get this particular day of the year off. We here in America are blessed beyond measure. Contrary to the mindless ranting of America's liberaliars, America is the greatest, freest nation in the history of the world. Never in the history of the world has there ever been a nation whose citizens enjoy as much freedom as here in America. Never in the history of the world has there ever been a nation as wealthy and powerful as the United States, or which has used that wealth and power so continuously for the advancement of freedom around the globe. These are facts, and they are beyond dispute.

There is another fact which is beyond dispute. Never in the history of the world has there ever been a a group of people who have been more willing to sacrifice their own blood, sweat, tears, and their very lives to defend freedom and to combat evil, no matter where the battle was, than have been the people of America. We the people of these United States, generation after generation, have proudly and honorably fought, in every corner of the globe, to save our fellow man from the forces of tyranny. The brave men and women of America's military have willingly fought, and many times died, to defend our God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As a nation, we have a sacred obligation to be grateful for their sacrifices, and to honor those who never made it back home.

As we mover closer to the summer months, please say a prayer for our warriors. Pray that God will bless them and keep them safe. Pray that God will give their leaders strength, courage and wisdom. Pray that God will grant us, as a nation, the courage and wisdom to support our troops in every way that we can. Pray also that God will give us all, collectively, the strength to utterly destroy this evil called Islamofascism, so that the world could be at peace once again.
