cpac 2007---day 1 highlights
The first day of the 34th annual Conservative Political Action Conference was yesterday. Following are some highlights:

www.redstate.com/stories/special_events/2_38 "2.38%"-- The Republican National Committee consists of 168 men and women. Would anyone like to take a guess as to how many of those committeemen and committeewomen were in attendance for the first day of CPAC? The answer is......4! That's right! A grand total of 4 out of 168 members of the RNC--that's only 2.38%--took time out of their busy schedules to attend the largest gathering of movement conservatives in the United States of America. That's shameful, but not very surprising. Make no mistake about it, there is a war going on now for the heart and soul of the GOP. The John McCain wing wants to promote "centrism" (a fancy word for "liberalism") as the key to success in 2008. History proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the RINO strategy (Republicans In Name Only) is a dead-bang loser. That's the strategy that snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last November, and it is a strategy that will produce a GOP trainwreck of epic proportions in 2008 if it isn't stopped. I don't know who is going to win this battle for the GOP. I suppose that if I had the character (or lack thereof) of the modern Democrat, I would just throw in the towel and say that this is a battle that can't be won and why are we wasting our time fighting a battle that some find unpopular and why can't we all just get along and.......well, you know the drill! I don't buy in to that kind of spinelessness, though. I believe that this is a battle worth fighting, and it is crucial that principled conservatism wins this fight. The future of America depends on it.
