conservative wisdom vs liberal benightedness

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=19240

What an excellent column by Deroy Murdock! (side note: Do you think that Joe "KKK" Biden has ever read a Deroy Murdock column? Do you think that Joe "KKK" Biden is literate?) Murdock provides us with the classic illustration of why it is so dangerous to give in to liberals on government expansion. The bigger government gets, the less free we the people become. The more that government intrudes into areas that it shouldn't intrude in, the more screwed up those areas become. The more liberal a person is, the more obtuse they are.

Let's look at specifics, as they are layed out in Murdock's column. If we convert from an oil-reliant culture to an ethanol-reliant culture, we will suffer the following consequences:

1. There will be a worldwide corn shortage, causing starvation and a HUGE increase in the price of corn and corn-based products (breakfast cereals, corn bread, corn syrup, etc.)
2. Cows, pigs and chickens are all major consumers of corn. The price of beef, pork and chicken will skyrocket worldwide. More starvation.
3. Entire forests will have to be eliminated to create more farmland in order to keep up with the increased demand for corn. Millions of carbon dioxide-consuming trees will be gone. Can you say REAL global warming?
4. Ethanol increases the levels of nitrous oxides in the atmosphere, causing more smog. Paging Professor Gore!
5. Look at all of the above. What effect do you suppose all of the above would have on the American economy and American employment? Wow!

Of course, whenever you hear one of those wacky liberals waxing poetic about all of the "benefits" of ethanol, keep one thing in mind. The only goal of the liberal on this issue is to destroy BIG OIL, because, for some cockamamie reason, liberals think that BIG OIL is evil. I don't think that BIG OIL is evil. I do think, though, that liberalism will destroy America if we let it!

That's a really interesting book you wrote there, John, but what does all that have to do with the Deroy Murdock column. May I offer some advice? Stay on point when you respond to one of my posts. If you want to expound on some other topic, get your own blog.
