The Illinois State Senate has voted 35-23 in favor of state funding for embryonic stem cell research. The measure will now go to the House. If passed by the House, the Governor, Democrat Rod Blagojevich, has already said that he will sign the bill into law. There are several aspects of this story that really stand out to me.
First, the cold light of harsh reality reveals that embryonic stem cell research has a success rate of ZERO. There has never, ever, ever, been one single positive breakthrough in this research. Adult stem cell research, however, and research on cord blood stem cells, have yielded many breakthroughs. What do liberals say to this undisputable fact? Spend more on embryonic research! Good grief! If I didn't know any better, I would think that liberals just wanted to kill embryos!
Second, we have this fairly startling comment from a Republican Illinois senator; "They (the embryos) go into the public sewer system. I really believe my maker would want me to use these embryos to sustain and improve human life," said one supporter, Sen. Kirk Dillard, R-Hinsdale. Wow! Memo to Sen. Dullard: It's Republicans like you that cost the GOP the 2006 election! What Bible are you reading that tells you that God would want you to murder human embryos in the name of science? What church do you go to? The United Church of Josef Mengele? Good grief! Maybe next year you can pass a bill to fund medical experiments on twins and dwarfs!
Third, let's look at this from a purely fiscal point of view. Some senators also questioned the idea of spending money on the research when the state is already in trouble financially. That's the final sentence of the article. Illinois is up to their eyeballs in debt, yet they can still find extra money for research that has a proven failure rate and which destroys human life.
