Take a few minutes to compare the two articles I have provided links to. The first link is to an article about Steven Jackson, The Indiana Pacers guard who got into a fight at an Indy strip club and cracked off 5 shots from his handgun into the air to scare the guys he was fighting with (I have posted information about this incident before. Go to http://christianconservatives.blogspot.com/2006/10/now-for-little-self-criticism.html to read for yourself.).
The Indianapolis Star article says that Jackson "perserveres despite his off-court troubles." The article paints Jackson as a victim because Pacer fans boo him, and ridicule him out in public. The article says that Jackson is "staying mentally strong." Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh said, "What happened earlier is unfortunate, but he's managed to play through it." Excuse me? What Walsh calls "unfortunate" I would call a felony. Excuse me for a moment while I go throw up......
There, that's better. Now I can finish with this post. Let me see if I have this straight. Stephen Jackson kicked the sh__ out of a handicapped dwarf in a strip club. Friends of the dwarf took exception, so they defended themselves. Jackson went to his car, grabbed his gun, fired off 5 shots into the air (35 other people were in the parking lot at the time), strapped the gun to his waist a' la Marshall Dillon, and proceeded to knock "Fingers" Williford (the dwarf) around some more. Fingers' brother, Dino, jumped in his car and ran over Jackson to save Fingers. Now you want me to believe that Jackson is a victim? You have got to be kidding me! I have an idea. If Donnie Walsh is so proud of Jackson's mental fortitude, why not just give him some sort of Mental Attitude/Good Citizenship Award? The Pacers could have a big ceremony involving the fans. The first 5000 fans in attendance could receive a free Club Rio calendar with full color photos of the 12 foxiest "ladies" employed by that fine establishment. At half time, Pacers mascot Boomer could join Jackson for a little target practice. The Pacers could also hold a drawing, with one lucky fan winning the 4 oz. of ganja found in J. Tinsley's car at the club with Jackson. Then Indy mayor Bart Peterson could award Jackson a key to the city and Gov. Daniels could award Jackson The Sagamore of the Wabash (the highest honor a Hoosier can receive). Would that be enough to honor this heroic young man? Excuse me one more time, I feel another retch coming on....
I'm back. Now let's compare to the Tony Dungy article on ESPN.com. You don't need any explanation from me. Just compare for yourself. Who is the real hero? Who is the Indy sports figure with true strength? Who would you call a "victim", Dungy or "Six-Shooter" Jackson? Who has really had to endure true hardship? Who would you rather have your kids emulate? Good grief! Has the whole world gone mad? How in the world can The Indianapolis Star justify printing an article expressing sympathy for Jackson. Tony Dungy should be nominated for sainthood, and Stephen Jackson should be in prison!
