let's cut through all the liberal lies about "schip"
SCHIP--State Children's Health Insurance Program, created in 1997 by Pres. Clinton and the GOP Congress
As you may or may not know, SCHIP is up for reauthorization this year. When it was originally created, SCHIP was intended to cover children in families who made too much to be eligible for Medicaid. The law was originally supposed to limit eligibility to families making not more than 200% of the poverty line. That's $40,300 for a family of four, by the way. In spite of the law's provisions, seven different states set limits above 200%, and fourteen states expanded the program to cover parents, pregnant women, and childless adults. Those are the facts concerning SCHIP in its current form.
Today, Democrats want to reauthorize the program, but they want massive increases in the cost and coverage of the program. Bills sponsored by Sen. Hillary Clinton (NY) and Rep. John Dingell (MI) would permit states to expand SCHIP up to 400% of the poverty level. For a family of four, that means $82,600 a year. Children in families that are in the top 25% of American wage earners would be eligible for government-funded health care!
As if that wasn't enough--and, by golly, don't you wish it was?--the bills sponsored by Hillary Health Care and John Dingell-Brain would change the legal definition of "child" for the purposes of this program. According to their socialist plan, states could offer Medicaid coverage for families who have "children" up to age 25. What does this mean in the real world? It means that you could have a family of four--a husband and wife who are both under 25 years of age with 2 kids--who have a family income of $82,000, and all 4 would be considered "children" by SCHIP. They would all be covered by taxpayer-funded health care!
Ladies and gentlemen, this bill must be defeated! Fortunately, Pres. Bush has promised to veto the Hillary-Dingell version, but bitter experience has proven that Pres. RINO will negotiate with the socialists, and we'll still end up with "Socialist Health Care-Lite."
Most of you probably don't know this, but in 2007, for the first time in American history, over 50% of Americans receive some sort of sustenance from the federal government--either as an employee within the federal bureaucracy or as some sort of entitlement recipient. The new ever-more-socialist SCHIP bill has the primary goal of expanding that number to over 90%. If we the people allow that to happen, you can wave goodbye to the land of the free and the home of the brave. We will have willingly become enslaved sheep on the plantation of Mommy and Daddy Government, and that will result in the death of this great republic created by the Founders. When Benjamin Franklin said that he and the other Founders had given us a republic--if we could keep it--this is what he was talking about. Please, contact your Senators and Congressmen!
