what movies best demonstrate america's character?

www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=21098

This is an interesting question raised by the editors of HumanEvents.com. Naturally, Rep. Diane Watson of the Modern Democrat Socialist Party wants people to see Lassie movies. Good grief!

Human Events has an alternate list. You can take a look at their list, but here's mine:

1. Rudy---Here in America, we are blessed because you can be whatever you want to be. All you have to do is work hard, and go out there and achieve. This movie demonstrates that.
2. Breaking Away---This is a great movie from the 1970's that people outside of Indiana don't know about. It was filmed in Bloomington, and it's about a group of local kids ("cutters") who enter Indiana University's Little 500 Bicycle race. Look for a very, very young Dennis Quaid. It has the same message as Rudy.
3. The Rifleman (TV show)---Rugged individualism, courage, and the importance of gun rights are all American values. They are all demonstrated by Chuck Conners
4. True Grit---John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn is The American. It's required viewing.
5-6. Rocky and Rocky Balboa---Go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBtO8Ay1MNk&mode=related&search to see why. That's America!
7. Lonesome Dove---This is probably the greatest depiction of the Old West that has ever been made.
8. The Right Stuff--- The original US Mercury 7 astronauts represent everything that makes America the greatest nation in the history of the world.
9. The Andy Griffith Show (TV)---The importance of family and friends, and a view of small-town America that are largely ignored by the elites on the coasts. These are the things that make America great.
10. Patton---This is the leader America needs today!
