all you need to know about global warming
I happened to be watching the weather forecast on the local TV news this evening, and was treated to what I'm sure was an inadvertant lesson on the merits of the global warming debate. The weather gal showed how the weather would be so dreadfully hot and sticky for the next couple of days, and then segued into the 5-day forecast. For her forecast of Friday's weather, she said, and I will quote her word for word, "We have done two different computer models for Friday's weather. One model shows that Friday will be much cooler, the other model shows it will be much warmer. We'll have to wait til later in the week to be more sure."
This amazing quote left me with several questions, which I would love to have Al "Broken Thermometer" Gore answer for me. They are:
1. If a meteorologist can't tell me whether or not it will be warmer on Friday in my little town, how in the world can they tell me that it will become dangerously hotter over the course of the next decade world-wide?
2. The weather gal said that they had done two different computer models which gave two different results. Am I to infer from this that the results of a computer model will change if you change the data plugged into that model?
3. The scientific community, contrary to what passes for truth in the mainstream media, appears to be evenly divided on the accuracy of the global warming predictions. Is this because each of the two sides inputs different data into their computer models?
4. Broken Thermometer Gore has become something of a movie mogul with the release of his new science fiction flick. Final question--Why should I believe what Gore says about global warming? After all, this is the same man who says he invented the Internet, who lied about his service record in Vietnam, who lied about being a co-sponsor of the McCain-Feingold Bill, who lied about where he grew up, and who lied about his high school grades. Is it possible that he is also lying about global warming? I would bet money on it!
My congratulations to the local weather gal. You provided me with more useful information in your 3 sentences than Al Gore has provided in his entire political career!

What is your motivation for your objection. There is much evidence for global warming. The cause is still in debate. Myself and others are getting tired of "Conservatives" putting their religion of "The free Market" above all else.
I think you should do your own research as well. The issue that terrifies me much more than global warming is people who don't believe that it is happening.
Whether or not you like Al Gore or not, should not be your motivation. If you believe that this earth was created by God for humans and animals to enjoy and live in peace, love and understanding, you as a Christian conservative should be in favor of doing everything that we can to save this wonderful and beautiful earth and all the great and wonderful creatures who live in it.
I think it's shameful for people to believe in a religion full of beauty and love and detailed descriptions of God who functions as a painter and a creator, who created a beautiful world with all kinds of diversity and life forms and then not be willing to take responsibility to preserve this creation which the God that you believe in, entrusted to humanity for us to care for.
If you are a real Christian and if you really believe what is written in your holy book, the Bible, then it should not even be an issue at all. this earth is a gift, I don't care what religion you're from... it doesn't take much to learn just how unique our planet is. We should all not even be here at all, that's how many factors had to come into play for our planet to be alive, green, and teeming with life.
Wake up and stop being a fool. Al Gore is not an elected official right now, just another American who doesn't want to end up baking for the next 50 years. If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it. The best news yet -- is that we can reverse some of these effects in the next 100 years if we try hard enough and quit being selfish and self-centered.
Shame on your ignorance.
Whew! It looks like you stirred up a can of worms, Hondo. And you didn't even give a straight-forward opinion on global warming!
Certainly there is some global warming. It is probably related to the activity of the sun, though the use of fossil fuels by a growing population (not in the USA, especially) can indeed have some effect. But how much?
On the News this evening one expert showed how a reduction in REAL pollution (poisons!) has caused an increase in the heat. The smog was blocking some of the sun from reaching the hot pavement below! Cleaner air = hotter pavement = urban heat wave!
As you see with this post and the one "above" (more recent), pointing to your label as a Christian Conservative will get attention -- mostly from Liberals!
Keep up the good work!
A few specific comments:
1. I am not putting my "religion of the free market above all else." I am using my God-given brain to examine the evidence for and against global warming and am coming to a thoughtful conclusion. I would encourage you to do the same. There is a whole lot of evidence against global warming.
2. Just because i don't buy the hype of the Gore Machine doesn't mean that I want to destroy the planet. Another GIANT LEAP for liberalism! When the conservative disagrees with your liberal fantasy, demonize the conservative.
3. To Big Beezer--You are absolutely correct about FOX News. In fact, FOX just installed a mind control device, similar to the V-Chip, in my TV so that all of my thoughts and actions will be controlled by Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Shepherd Smith. Good grief, Scarecrow, ask the wizard for a brain!
The scientific community is *not* evenly divided as you suggest. The mathematical models that support global warming are compelling and they describe the available data excellently. No one has yet produced similar models to disprove the reality of global warming.
It is interesting that in attacking global warming you choose ad hominem attacks on Al Gore - he's a liar, therefore everything he says is lies. And yet, in another post you are perfectly willing to overlook personal flaws in Mel Gibson.
Politics, all politics.
Kevvyd provides us with a teachable moment. I have always been amazed about the ability of liberals to take a fantasy and to believe in it so strongly. I have also been amazed at how upset a liberal will get when a conservative dares to challenge that fantasy with something as inconvenient as the truth (to "borrow" a phrase from a recent sci-fi movie). Let's look at some hard, cold facts and where those facts come from.
Link to www.oism.org/pproject/s33p36.htm for a look at a petition signed by more than 17,000 scientists debunking the myths of global warming. There is a whole lot of info contained in that petition, but I'll give you a couple of highlights.
"Predictions of harmful climatic effects due to future increases in minor greenhouse gasses like CO2 are in error and do not conform to current experimental knowledge."
"Predictions of global warming are based on computer climate modeling, a branch of science still in its infancy. The empiricle evidence actual measurements of Earth's temperature shows no man-made warming trend. Indeed, over the past two decades, when CO2 levels have been at their highest, global average temperatures have actually cooled slightly."
I would encourage everyone to take a look at the link provided. It will offer some much needed perspective, in light of the media hysteria over "Cecil B. DeGore's" new flick.
Kevvyd does offer one bit of truth at the very end of his comment. "Politics, all politics." It's the only explanation I can think of for blindly believing the rantings of a serial liar like Gore.
Thanks for the link, but I should update you and your readers. That article, as far as I'm aware, never underwent peer review, has been extensively debunked in a number of different forums. There are a couple of good reviews of it here and here and elsewhere. The first of these links contains a link to a good review that attends to some of the "factual" elements of the article.
I am more than happy to provide a teachable moment.
The first "review" you site is simply a blog where different people can voice their opinions. It says nothing of a factual nature to refute the claims in the petition. The second "review" you site is actually a radical left wing environmental group that has a vested interested in pushing the global warming agenda. Thanks for the teachable moment.
